STRETCH is a collaboration between the choreographer Isabella Soupart and the British visual artist Jonathan Sullam. MAD has the pleasure of hosting the STRETCH project (dance/performance and sound installation). The first performance will be given on 3 May 2019. A work in progress will be open to the public on Saturday 27 April as part of the Day of Dance and on Sunday 28 April for the MAD weekends.
The idea is to question the accelerated rhythms of pop culture. This takes as its starting point the socio-emotional and political events that surround us. What happens when one stretches these rhythms visually, physically and sonically? What impact will that have on our perception and what changes take place in the way a group or an individual experiences art and performance?
STRETCH is a sound installation in which dancers/performers interact in the spatial conditions of a museum. Although MAD Dansaert does not present itself as a museum, the aim is to “give the keys” of the building to Isabella and Jonathan to adapt STRETCH there, in response to the lively creative Brussels scene.
A group of dancers will take turns in a test of physical, rhythmic and enchanting endurance from 18:00 to 00:00 on 3, 10, 17 and 24 May, performing and reinterpreting a series of existing truly trance dances from pop culture.
In this work in progress for several dancers, each artist immerses themselves in a foreign world, absorbing it, subtracting from it, adding to it, working it until they appropriate it.
Visitors enter and leave as they wish over a period of six hours, deciding for themselves how long their personal experience lasts.
